Coverage is the whole conversation in a swim bottom, and it is the thing photographs are worst at showing. Every bottom here names its own cut, so full coverage, cheeky, Brazilian and thong are stated rather than implied by an angle.

Rise matters just as much and nobody talks about it. A high waisted bottom sits at or above the navel and holds. A low rise sits on the hip and does not. Both are here, and the ones with a tummy control panel say so in their own description.

Straight answers

Swim Bottoms: questions we get

What is the real difference between cheeky and Brazilian?

Cheeky leaves the lower half of the seat uncovered. Brazilian cuts higher at the leg and narrower at the back, so it covers less again. A thong covers least of all. All three are named on the piece rather than left to the photograph.

Does a high waisted bottom actually hold anything in?

The ones with a stated tummy control panel do, because they carry a second layer of fabric across the front. A plain high waisted bottom sits higher but does not compress. The description separates the two.

Are board shorts worn over a bottom?

The ones here have a built-in brief, so they work on their own. They are the most covered thing in this department and the right answer for a day that involves a board, a boat or a long walk back.
